The 190th Annual Meeting of the Missouri Baptist Convention (MBC) convened on October 28-29, 2024, at the St. Charles Convention Center in St. Charles, Missouri. This gathering brought together messengers from affiliated churches statewide to deliberate on key issues, pass resolutions, and engage in worship and fellowship.
Resolutions Adopted
The convention addressed several significant topics through the adoption of resolutions:
Affirmation of the Cooperative Program: This resolution emphasized the importance of the Cooperative Program in supporting missions and ministries. It encouraged Missouri Baptists to educate their congregations about this partnership and sought divine guidance for its continued success.
Support for Missouri Baptist Colleges and Universities: Recognizing the role of Christian higher education, this resolution affirmed support for institutions like Missouri Baptist University, Southwest Baptist University, and Hannibal-LaGrange University. It encouraged churches to provide financial and prayer support and to promote these institutions within their communities.
Criminal Justice Reform: This resolution called for a balanced approach to criminal justice, advocating for both justice and mercy. It urged government officials to prosecute criminal activity while also striving for the redemption and restoration of offenders. Additionally, it encouraged Missouri Baptists to support ministries aiding in the reintegration of former inmates into society.
Opposition to Amendment 3 – The "Right to Reproductive Freedom": Expressing a pro-life stance, this resolution opposed the proposed Amendment 3, which sought to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution. It called for a day of prayer and fasting on November 3, 2024, and urged Missourians to vote against the amendment in the upcoming election.
Expression of Appreciation: A courtesy resolution was adopted to express gratitude to the officers, committees, and staff of the Executive Board, as well as the local arrangements committee and the St. Charles Convention Center, for their contributions to the success of the annual meeting.
