Good morning, church! It's great to be with you again today as we continue our journey through the book of James. This practical book is full of wisdom for navigating the challenges and temptations of everyday life.
Today, we're diving into James 1:12-15, a passage that reminds us that God blesses those who endure trials and temptations.
God Blesses Endurance
Life is full of trials, isn't it? We face challenges in our relationships, our work, our health, and our finances. It's easy to get discouraged and lose heart when things get tough. But James encourages us to endure these trials with patience, knowing that God is using them to shape us and mold us into the image of His Son.
What does it mean to endure with patience? It means trusting in God's timing and His plan, even when we don't understand what He's doing. It means persevering through difficult circumstances, knowing that God will give us the strength to overcome.
The Bible is full of examples of people who endured trials with patience. Think of Job, who lost everything but remained faithful to God. Think of Joseph, who was sold into slavery but ultimately became a powerful leader in Egypt. Think of Jesus, who endured the cross for the joy set before Him.
These examples remind us that God is faithful, and He will never allow us to be tempted beyond what we can bear. When we endure trials with patience, we demonstrate our trust in God and our love for Him.
Temptation is Not from God
When we face trials and temptations, it's easy to blame God. But James reminds us that temptation does not come from God. God is holy and righteous, and He cannot be tempted with evil.
So where does temptation come from? It comes from our own desires, which entice us and drag us away from God. We're tempted to seek pleasure, power, and possessions instead of seeking God's kingdom.
But God has given us a way to overcome temptation. He has given us His Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path. He has given us His Spirit, who empowers us to resist temptation and live according to God's will.
When we're tempted, we need to turn to God in prayer and ask for His help. We need to meditate on His Word and fill our minds with His truth. And we need to surround ourselves with other believers who can encourage us and hold us accountable.
Sin Leads to Death
When we give in to temptation, the consequences are devastating. Sin leads to death, both physical and spiritual. It separates us from God and destroys our relationships with others.
But God has provided a way to escape the penalty of sin. He sent His Son, Jesus Christ, to die on the cross for our sins. When we repent of our sins and turn to Jesus in faith, we receive forgiveness and eternal life.
The truth is, we all need to be serious about sin. We need to recognize the danger it poses to our lives and our souls. And we need to turn to Jesus, who is the only way to escape the consequences of sin.
Conclusion
God blesses endurance. Temptation is not from God. Sin leads to death. These are the truths that James reminds us of in this passage.
As you go through this week, remember these truths. When you face trials, endure them with patience, knowing that God is using them for your good. When you're tempted, turn to God in prayer and ask for His help. And when you sin, repent and turn to Jesus for forgiveness.
